First Aid Training

This weekend Dave Hepworth, of Extreme Care, came to Manchester to deliver a REC Level two course to twelve of us from the canoe club. REC (Rescue Emergency Care) was something new to all of us, focussing more on practical methods of dealing with the casualty than ensuring you are an expert with a triangular bandage.

Using materials we are likely to have with us on the river we were able to improvise splints and methods for securing them. Once we had learnt these skills, we moved outside to deal with some practical scenarios. These ranged from broken limbs, epileptic fits, to drowning victims:

All in all a good weekend, we had fun and everyone came away with better first aid skills.
